Eleni Michalopoulou

Dr Eleni Michalopoulou is an Associate Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nicosia.

Dr Michalopoulou holds a Veterinary Medicine degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK, and a PhD in Infectious diseases of sheep from the Royal Veterinary College of the University of London, UK.

Her research interests include the identification of risk factors for zoonotic infections, including both zoonoses associated with the food chain (Campylobacter spp, Meat decontamination) and live animals (Echinococcus spp). In addition, Dr Michalopoulou has explored concepts of risk in the food chain in their historical development looking into the drivers in the evolution of official controls for meat inspection.
