
Daphne Mavrides
Dr Daphne Mavrides is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nicosia.
Dr Mavrides is a veterinary surgeon and a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the United Kingdom and the Cyprus Veterinary Council Registrar. Dr Mavrides holds a BVSc degree from the University of Bristol Veterinary School and an MSc degree in Infection and Immunity from University College London. Subsequent to her studies she practiced small animal medicine and surgery in private practice, referral and university hospitals in the United Kingdom. During this time, she undertook a scholarship at the University of Cambridge working with veterinary specialists and conducting research focused on neurosurgery in small animals. Her PhD work focuses on the role of the gut microbiome in cattle and its interactions with parasites of public health importance. More broadly, her research interests include zoonoses and antibiotic resistance in companion animals and livestock and their effect on the environment as well as public health thus emphasizing the One Health concept.
