March 2024

The University of Nicosia Veterinary School has launched last July a series of veterinary seminars on topics related to animal health and the One Health concept.

The series was inaugurated by the Dean of the Veterinary School, Professor Michael Herrtage, and the Dean of the Veterinary School of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Professor Manel López Béjar. They delivered presentations on clinical endocrinology in small animal practice to an audience that included veterinarians, academics, and students.

The monthly seminars have successfully brought together experts from various fields to discuss a wide range of topics, including antimicrobial resistance in farm animals, pathology in swine farming, communication skills in small animal practice, food science, and infectious diseases.

This multidisciplinary approach not only enriches the educational experience but also fosters collaboration among a diverse group of professionals, including farmers, environmental experts, veterinarians, researchers, academics, and veterinary students. Such collaboration is essential for advancing veterinary medicine and fully embracing the One Health concept, which recognizes the interconnection between animal health, human health, and our shared environment.

The next seminar, scheduled for March 14, will be led by Dr Ghislaine Dujovne. It focuses on equine breeding and is open to anyone interested in this area and in interacting with professionals in equine medicine.
