“Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace”
In 2005, the first ever UNESCO Chair in Cyprus was inaugurated at the University of Nicosia. The purpose of the UNESCO Chair is “the promotion of a comprehensive framework of educational activities, research, provision of information and documentation in the area of cultural, linguistic and religious diversity and the intercultural dialogue for a culture of peace, on a local, national or regional level.”

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the largest university in Cyprus, and the largest university in Southern Europe that teaches primarily in English, welcoming 11,500+ students from over 70 countries across the globe.
The University of Nicosia participates in a wide field of research, with local and international interest. Recognising that the research challenges of the future are multidisciplinary, with modern problems requiring solutions with a range of approaches; UNIC seeks to combine the potential of multiple disciplines and synergies with other universities and research centres.
