Has AI Video Gone Too Far?

Generative AI’s newest capabilities are starting to freak people out, with good reason, it is becoming harder to tell truth from fiction.

Exploring Perception and Reality

The video we are examining in this post was put together by AI-related YouTuber Wes Roth. It is a collection of short clips created by Veo 3, featuring AI characters and situations of a near-flawless quality that prompt us to consider artificial intelligence, the nature of reality, and how AI "perceives" the world. It's a good example of what AI can create. It is also very important that we adapt to these advancements.

What the Video Shows:

The AI-made video includes several main types of scenes:

  • AI Characters Wondering About Themselves: Many clips show AI characters who seem to realise they are not human. Some are confused or unhappy about this. They talk about being controlled by "prompts" or instructions, which makes them question if they possess free will.
  • AI Copying People and Culture: AI attempting to emulate people and comprehend human culture. For instance, one part has an AI trying to teach slang. Another invents a new product. These scenes show how AI learns and copies human ideas.
  • AI and Human-Made Things: It illustrates how it is becoming increasingly difficult to discern whether something was created by a human or by AI. One clip is a fake news report where AI labels human writing as "not reliable." This part makes us think about trust and information.
  • Strange and Creative AI Ideas: Much of the video is filled with surprising and imaginative scenes. There are unusual situations and characters, like a talking dinosaur. This shows that AI can create new and unexpected things.
  • AI Asking Big Questions: The AI characters and stories in the video bring up deep questions. They make us think about awareness, what reality is, and how AI might understand these profound concepts.

Points for Teachers and Staff:

This collection is a useful example of current AI capabilities. It brings important discussion topics to the surface, such as:

  • The advantages and disadvantages of using AI-made content.
  • How we define new ideas and who creates them when AI is involved.
  • How AI is learning about and reflecting human culture.
  • Ways to use AI in schools to examine complex topics or create new teaching materials.
