Lab Overview

Evolve Food Metrology provides the measurement and quality-characterisation layer for food-derived samples within UNIC Evolve. It establishes the physical and chemical baseline of food materials before reporting, storage, downstream analysis, or correlation with biological and environmental data.

Research & Innovation Focus

The lab supports clean measurement of food sample properties such as moisture, water activity, refractive index, Brix, and spectral characteristics. Its strategic role is to make food materials quantitatively comparable, allowing studies in nutrition, formulation, quality control, stability, and food-system analytics to rest on structured measurement.

Core Capabilities

Core capabilities include UV-Visible / NIR spectrophotometry for spectral characterisation, water activity measurement, digital refractometry for Brix assessment, and moisture analysis. These systems provide quality and compositional indicators that can be linked to downstream chemistry, formulation performance, nutritional attributes, and biological response datasets.

Applications & Impact

Applications include food quality assessment, precision nutrition research, formulation development, functional-food validation, shelf-stability studies, biomarker-linked nutrition programmes, and food-system monitoring. When integrated with analytical chemistry, sequencing, biomarker analysis, and data infrastructure, the lab helps create a quantitative bridge between food composition and human or environmental outcomes.
