The Cyprus General Healthcare System (GHS) provides comprehensive medical care to all eligible residents, including students from European countries. If you are a citizen of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland and wish to register with the GHS, you will need to obtain a certificate of entitlement to healthcare (S1 form) from your country of residence. The rules and conditions for obtaining an S1 form vary, so you should check with your health insurance authority in your home country to determine your eligibility.

If you are not eligible for an S1 form, you can still access basic medical care services in Cyprus using your European Health Insurance Card issued by your country of residence.

Once you secure your S1 follow the next steps:

STEP 1: OBTAIN A REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE (YELLOW SLIP)

Complete the MEU1 form (only Part 1) and submit it at the Cyprus Migration Office with all supporting documents. For more information please refer to the Cyprus Migration Office website.

STEP 2: APPLY FOR A MEDICAL CARD

After you acquire the Yellow Slip submit the following to the Ministry of Health (MoH):

      • Fill out the Application by S1 holders for registration to Cyprus Health System form.
      • Send the completed form, along with copies of the S1 Form, and the Registration Certificate via email to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Application for a Medical Card’.

STEP 3: ENROL TO GHS (Γεσυ)

After you acquire the Medical Card, create an online account with the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO).

Print and sign the enrolment request form, then send it along with copies of the Registration Certificate, Medical Card, and S1 form to:

Follow-up:

        • Call 17000 two weeks after application to check status.
        • Expect approval 4 weeks later; call to confirm registration.
STEP 4: ENROL WITH A PERSONAL DOCTOR

After you confirm your registration with GHS, you may register with a personal doctor on campus at the University of Nicosia Medical Centre by completing the online enrolment form.
