Women at the Workplace: Cyprus and Beyond

6th February 2020

This event was organised jointly by the Diplomatic Academy – University of Nicosia and Global Shapers Nicosia at Cine Studio. As part of an ongoing effort to emphasise gender equality at the workplace, as well inequality at the political, economic, and security arenas, the organisers invited three distinguished speakers who are experts in their field.

The event opened up with a video by the International Labour Organisation, highlighting inequality issues at the workplace, and what different civil society and UN institutions should be doing to tackle such problems. Cleo Papadopoulou from PwC Cyprus addressed equality and diversity at the workplace; Susana Elisa Pavlou from the Mediterranean Institute on Gender Studies covered politics and representation in Cypriot society; and Anna Koukkides-Procopiou from the Centre for Sustainable Peace and Democratic Development (SeeD) looked at gender from a security dimension. The event was chaired by Petros Petrikkos, Project and Research Associate at the Diplomatic Academy.

Following the speakers’ presentations, the audience was invited to an interactive discussion with the speakers. A networking reception followed, allowing attendees to approach all three speakers and to discuss further over coffee and tea.
