Courses offered by IPCNS, starting on February 22nd 2021

The Institute of Public, Cyber and National Security is offering two Professional Certificate Courses, starting on February 22nd:

Professional Certificate Course in Blockchain and Digital Currencies for Law Enforcement investigation and Criminal Justice

This course aims to provide law enforcement investigators, prosecutors and other officials of the criminal justice system an introductory overview towards:

a) cryptocurrency related financial crimes, such as money laundering, terrorist financing and fraudulent transactions; and

b) the role of blockchain technology in the fight against those financial crimes.

The course will explore the growing threat and the sophisticated techniques deployed by financial criminals. In doing so, participants are expected to develop sufficient knowledge and working understanding of the alerting – and often complex – links between cryptocurrencies and crime, and to be able to formulate an appropriate modus operandi inside the developing crypto-forensic domain.

Numerous case studies will be examined, with a particular focus on the (pseudo)anonymity of crypto payments, the difficulty in monitoring payment flows, and the unregulated nature of many cryptocurrency exchanges.

Professional Certificate Course in Digital Forensics and Cyber Crime investigation

This course will serve as a comprehensive, practical guide to Digital Forensics and Cyber Crime investigations.

In this hyper-connected, ‘always online’ world that we now live in, almost any Crime can have a digital element – from a petty thief walking down the road with a smartphone in his pocket – to complex, multi-jurisdictional online frauds.

It is essential that today’s police investigators know how to effectively leverage ‘Digital’ to their advantage. What exhibits should my officers be seizing? – and what can I get back from different types of media? For example, what can I get back from a late model iPhone versus a Windows laptop? Or is worth attempting to extract data from a suspect’s Cloud based accounts? The sessions in the course will answer all these questions and much morewith the aim of securing safe, admissible evidence – or useful and timely actionable-intelligence.
