Terms and Conditions

1. INTRODUCTION

The University of Nicosia – Department of Architecture, Department of Management and MIS, and Department of Communications are organizing the Russian-Cyprus Academic Olympiad (hereinafter referred to as “Olympiad”)

2. ELIGIBILITY

The Olympiad is open to all Russian speaking students from the age group of 15-18 years old (hereinafter referred to as “Participants”)

Students can enter only one competition.

Competition entries for students under 18 years old need to be submitted by the students’ parents, confirming consent for their children’s participation in the Olympiad.

The competition committee will reject applications to the competitions if received directly by students under 18 years of age.

3. TIMING

The Olympiad Period is March 21, 2019 at 9:00 am – May 5, 2019 at 11:59pm

The final date of submission of projects is May 5, 2019

The Evaluating period of the Olympiad projects is May 6, 2019 – May 15, 2019

An Award Ceremony will be held on May 18, 2019 at 11:00 am, at the University of Nicosia

4. HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Participation in this Olympiad is free of charge. The Participants can enter the Competition online, through the website: www.unic.ac.cy/rucyolympiad

By participating in the competition and submitting a project as a competition application via the website, you agree to these terms and conditions.

5. PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS

Participants accept that:

  • The registration form of the Contest must be fully complete and in accordance with the Contest’s terms and conditions sent before the end of the end of the registration period to be eligible for the prize drawings.
  • At the time of participation, Participants are deemed to have read, understood and be in agreement with the Terms and Conditions of the Olympiad. If they do not agree with them, they should not proceed with applying for the Olympiad. By continuing to participate in this Olympiad, they agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
  • The judging committee retains the right to exclude Participants from participating in the Contest, if these are not in line with these terms and conditions.

6. ASSESSMENT

At the end of the Olympiad period, the assessment team will select 3 winners for each Olympiad from among all eligible entries received for each competition. The evaluation period of the Olympiad projects is May 6 2019 – May 15, 2019

Olympiad projects that meet all the requirements established by the rules of the Olympiad and will be evaluated by a council of professionals and scientists.

7. WINNER NOTIFICATION

The winners of the competition will be notified via email on May 15, 2019.

Winners should confirm that they accept the prize and the conditions for allocating the prize, by replying to the confirmation e-mail within 24 hours from receiving it.

In the email reply accepting a prize, the winners should supply their full contact details (first name(s), last name(s), e-mail, postal addresses and schools). Failure to confirm acceptance of the prize and to provide the required information within the stated timeframe may result in forfeiting the right to claim the prize and awarding it to the runner up.

The announcement date may be delayed due to unexpected circumstances. Decisions made by the committee are final on all matters relating to the Contest. The committee will not discuss the Contest results and will not respond to any requests for comments on this subject.

The official announcement of the winners will take place during the Award Ceremony, which will be held on May 18, 2019 at 11:00 am, at the University of Nicosia.

8. PRIZES

At the end of the competition period, we will select 3 winners for each Olympiad among all eligible participants according to the criteria established by each academic department participating in the Olympiad with a competition.

The scholarships cannot be used by anyone else other than the winners themselves and their value cannot be received as cash. Each prize is awarded “as is”, without warranty regarding the underlying services of performance.

Each winner (total of 9 winners – 3 winners from each Olympiad) will receive:

  • GOLD – First prize: academic scholarship from the University of Nicosia of 75% for the first year of study, PLUS €800 in prize money
  • SILVER – Second prize: academic scholarship from the University of Nicosia of 50% for the first year of study, PLUS €400 in prize money
  • BRONZE – Third prize: academic scholarship from the University of Nicosia of 25% for the first year of study, PLUS €200 in prize money

9. FORCE MAJEURE

If for any reason any aspect of this Olympiad is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, telephone network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud technical failures or any cause beyond the control of the competition committee, the committee reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Olympiad, or invalidate any affected participations, if required.

10. DATA PROTECTION/PRIVACY POLICY

The personal data processed for the requirements of the Olympiad are declared to the Privacy Protection Commission in accordance with the Law.

The Participants are advised that their personal data collected during the Olympiad are necessary to process their participation. This data is intended exclusively for the committee and its subcontractors and service providers for Olympiad management requirements and for the uses defined below. The committee may ask Participants to give their consent to receiving information on promotional operations by e-mail. The Participants may exercise their right to access, rectify or challenge the data concerning them by writing to the address of the University’s office.

11. JURISDICTION

Legal relationship between the committee and the Participants is governed by the applicable laws of the Republic of Cyprus. Any and all legal actions or claims arising in connection with this Olympiad must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in Cyprus.

12. RELEASE

The committee disclaims any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participating in, or accessing or downloading information in connection with this Olympiad, and reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend this Olympiad should a virus, bug, computer problem, unauthorized intervention or other causes beyond the Organizer’s control, corrupt the administration, security or proper play of this Olympiad.

By participating in this Olympiad, Participants agree that no claim shall be asserted against the committee, its affiliates or any of its respective employees in respect of any damages, rights, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever that result from their participation to this Contest and/or acceptance and enjoyment of the prizes.

13. AGREEMENT

By entering the Olympiad Participants agree to abide by all rules.
