Supporting Learning, Research and Community Engagement
Located a short walk from the main campus building, the University of Nicosia Library & Information Centre is a central point of academic support for students, faculty, researchers and the wider community.
With a strong commitment to service, access and knowledge sharing, the Library provides quality resources, expert guidance and inclusive learning spaces that support the educational and research goals of the University community.
Our mission is to help students develop the skills, confidence and critical thinking needed to assume responsible roles in a changing society, while contributing to society through partnerships with business, civic institutions and the wider public.
A Rich Collection of Print and Digital Resources
The Library holds a substantial and continually developing collection that supports all relevant areas of study at the University of Nicosia.
Our resources include:
- More than 100,000 print books
- Approximately 600,000 e-books
- Around 30,000 full-text e-journals
- Academic articles, journals, databases and other digital resources
- Official EU publications and documentation through the European Documentation Centre
All Library resources are available through the Library webpage. Digital resources may be accessed on campus, while off-campus access requires a current Library account and proxy settings configuration.
UNIC Primo: Search Smarter from One Place
To make access to academic resources easier and faster, the Library uses UNIC Primo, a powerful discovery search tool that enables users to search most of the Library’s full-text resources from a single search box.
Through UNIC Primo, users can discover:
- Books and e-books
- Journal articles
- Academic journals
- Full-text resources
- Research materials across multiple subject areas
UNIC Primo helps students and researchers save time, refine their searches and access reliable academic content more efficiently.
Study Spaces and Facilities
The Library offers a welcoming environment for individual and group study, with facilities designed to support different learning needs.
Students and visitors have access to:
- Seating capacity for 200 users
- Quiet study areas
- Spaces for group study
- Networked PCs for electronic access
- Wi-Fi access
- Photocopying facilities
- TVs and tape recorders
- Dedicated terminals with SuperNova, a programme for blind or visually impaired users
The Library is designed to provide a pleasant, accessible and supportive atmosphere for study, research and academic collaboration.
Research Support and Interlibrary Loan Services
No library can hold every material required for teaching, learning and research. To support specialised academic needs, the Library offers a Loaning and Interlibrary Loan Service.
Through collaboration with other state universities and the British Library Document Supply Centre, the service aims to help users access materials that are not available within the Library’s own collection.
The Library is also part of the Cyprus Academic Libraries Consortium (CALC), created with other academic libraries to share costs and resources for the benefit of the academic community.
Information Literacy and User Training
Our motto is “Service to all users”.
Library staff are always available to assist users in identifying, locating and using the materials they need. The Library also organises regular training sessions to help students develop practical research skills and make effective use of academic resources.
Training activities include:
- Hands-on information literacy sessions
- Workshops on using e-resources
- User group sessions
- Annual updates on new and existing digital resources
- Guidance on finding, evaluating and using academic information
Information Literacy is an integral part of the Library’s service. It supports students in gaining transferable skills and critical thinking abilities that can contribute to their academic, personal and professional success.
Service to the Community
The Library’s commitment to service extends beyond the University community.
A dedicated Children’s Reading Room has been created to introduce children aged 4 to 12 to the value and enjoyment of reading. Authors and actors are invited to read stories, helping children gain a positive and engaging first experience of what a library can be.
Through initiatives like this, the Library supports literacy, creativity and community engagement from an early age.
European Documentation Centre
In recent years, the Library has been selected to host the European Documentation Centre (EDC).
The EDC receives and provides access to official European Union publications, documents and electronic databases, making them available to academics, students and the public.
The EDC also offers training and guidance for individuals and groups on how to find EU information and use EU tools effectively.
Here to Help
Whether you are searching for a book, accessing an e-journal, preparing a research project, learning how to use academic databases or looking for specialist EU information, the Library & Information Centre team is ready to support you.
At UNIC, the Library is more than a place to study. It is a gateway to knowledge, research, discovery and lifelong learning.
