The debating tournament is organized by the University of Nicosia Research Foundation (UNRF) on the whole national territory, involving young people from high schools. The contest consists of a debate with two teams arguing and supporting with appropriate research and evidence the position for or against a certain given topic, before qualified judges.

The local tournament falls within the European project End Climate Change, Start Climate of Change – in short, #ClimateOfChange – and will be run within the”1st E2STEAM Cyprus Festival” on 9-10 April 2022 organized by the University of Nicosia and the Cyprus Youth Organization under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Supporters of the Festival are the Commissioner for Environment and the Commissioner for Volunteering.

Topics that students are invited to discuss are global issues such as: human rights, inclusion, participation, environmental protection, non-discrimination, migration and development, youth policies. Specifically, the contest will focus on climate change and migration, also highlighting the interconnection to the current development model, our economic system and our own lifestyle. UNRF will provide training on debate contest and any other assistance needed for the students’ preparation.

Who can participate?

Young people (16-19 years) can compete in groups of 6 people.
UNRF will organize a tournament, at no cost to the schools.
The winning team resulting from the tournament will be announced in social media and earn great prizes.
