AI Tools for Student Success at the UNIC Student Orientation

Dr Chris Alexander – AI Tools for Student Success at the UNIC Student Orientation

UNIC SEPTEMBER ORIENTATION: Thursday 25 September 14:00 - 15:00 - Discovery Hall

The presentation “Navigating AI: Ethics, Innovation, and Student Success at the University of Nicosia” by Dr. Chris Alexander explored the complex relationship between artificial intelligence and higher education. It highlighted how AI had transformed the university experience by enhancing productivity, supporting academic writing, and fostering student success, with 86% of students already using AI tools. The talk balanced enthusiasm for AI’s potential with reflections on ethical considerations such as empathy, bias, and disclosure. It also examined issues like diminishing returns in AI model scaling, the reliability of benchmarking, and the effectiveness of smaller models. The presentation concluded with broader philosophical reflections on human consciousness and the uniqueness of human intelligence in the age of AI
