Dr Chris Alexander is the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Learning Centre (AILC), which was previously known as the Technology Enhanced Learning Centre (TELC). He had been the Head of TELC since 2016, and was before that the Head of the Distance Learning IT Unit at the University of Nicosia from 2008-2016.

He has been pioneering technology innovation at UNIC since 2004 with, for instance, the development of the NEPTON Test, the Language Lab, E-learning/blended learning/Distance Learning, technology enhanced learning (TEL) and AI. He has also led the development of five apps and many other IT projects for the University and has acquired a wealth of hands-on TEL/IT/AI experience during this period.

At the AI Learning Centre, the key mission is to spearhead the integration of artificial intelligence into education, positioning the University of Nicosia at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning. Central to this mission is UNIC’s bespoke AI platform, Evolve/PowerFlow, which empowers users with advanced AI affordances. The aim is to foster an AI learning environment that is forward-thinking, reflective, and anchored in effective learning design principles.

He is an Associate Professor in Technology Enhanced Learning/ Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). His area of specialisation is mainly focused on Artificial Intelligence, TEL, Learning Design and Learning Analytics. Vladislav Kolev has been working at the AI Learning Centre (which was previously known as the Technology Enhanced Learning Centre (TELC)) since early 2017, and has previously worked as a 3D Designer, Social Media Marketing Designer, Digital Designer, Multimedia Designer, VR Designer etc.

Vladislav Kolev has been working at the AI Learning Centre (which was previously known as the Technology Enhanced Learning Centre (TELC)) since early 2017, and has previously worked as a 3D Designer, Social Media Marketing Designer, Digital Designer, Multimedia Designer, VR Designer etc.

With a jack-of-all-trades skillset that spans three different “departments”, Vlad uses combinations of those acquired skills in research, testing and developing content to help push UNIC’s vision forward, as well as supporting faculty and staff wherever needed. From interactive and adaptive lecture content, ideation implementation, professionally developed media, web design; and everything in between falls under his area of work.

Some of his active hobbies include: Creative Writing (see stories), Video Games, Narrative Design(see published article), Fitness, Drawing, 3D Modelling and Reading.

Some of his inactive hobbies include: going to bed at a reasonable time.

Cynthia Efremoglou has been working in the University of Nicosia for the last 23 years. Over these years she has obtained her Degree in MIS Management Information Systems, an MBA in Marketing and is currently a PHD candidate in Online Learning/AI at the University of Nicosia.

Over these years she has obtained her Degree in MIS Management Information Systems, an MBA in Marketing and is currently a PHD candidate in Online Learning/AI at the University of Nicosia. Cynthia’s various roles at UNIC have included assisting faculty, staff and students in IT support, development of DL Distance Learning programmes, implementation of various technologies for DL and local courses, training and teaching for both DL and local courses and managing DL Social Media accounts. Her significant experience in training has built her skill set and allows her to introduce cutting-edge learning-technology skills for all faculty, staff and students.

Konstantinos Vassos has been contributing to the IT department as a Full-Stack Web Developer since 2021 and began assisting the Technology Enhanced Learning Centre in 2024.

Konstantinos Vassos has been contributing to the IT department as a Full-Stack Web Developer since 2021 and began assisting the Technology Enhanced Learning Centre in 2024. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Cyber Security. In his role, Konstantinos specializes in WordPress development, with a focus on secure coding practices to bolster cybersecurity measures. His past experience also covers working on custom projects, engaging in social media marketing, and implementing search engine optimization strategies.

In his spare time, Konstantinos is passionate about keeping abreast of the latest PC hardware, enjoying audiobooks, and learning new languages. Communicating effectively in five languages, he is enthusiastic about exploring their respective cultures and further improving his language skills.
