Academic and Professional Benefits

The aim of this collaboration is to maximize the learning and experience of students through two years of academic studies at UNIC, followed by two years at Bayes, during which they attend Deloitte workshops and also engage in rich internship experiences with Deloitte.

It is ideal for students intending to pursue a career in the accounting profession and financial services industry, be it as Auditors, Tax advisers, Risk management consultants, Data analysts or in any other specialty where financial accounting is a central element.

In view of the constant change in the landscape of the accounting profession and the constant search for innovation and excellence, an innovative package was designed, which intends to equip ambitious students with the knowledge and experience required to maximise their career opportunities and also their earning potential.

Academic knowledge

This collaboration seeks to provide students with the skills employers in the field are looking for, such as: detailed knowledge of financial accounting, financial reporting, auditing, taxation, risk management, cost and management accounting and financial statements analysis. The academic knowledge, together with practical work competences, will give candidates the confidence to succeed in a wide range of accounting and
business job positions.

Through this collaboration, students can, in as little as 4 years, complete their academic studies and obtain their degree from Bayes– BSc in Accounting and Finance.

Furthermore, they can take advantage of the exemptions they can gain for professional qualifications such as the ACCA and ACA.

Professional qualifications

This programme would be of particular interest to anyone eager to pursue a professional qualification such as the ACA, ACCA, CFA, ADIT, CMA, CPA and CIA accordingly. This programme provides additional advantages such as exemptions for qualifications for the ACCA and ACA, and automatic registration for the University Student Scheme of the ICAEW and the Accelerate programme of the ACCA.

Professional experience with Deloitte

Equally important to academic degrees and professional qualifications is exposure to the real work experience.

Students enrolled in the international programme in Accounting and Finance will participate in tailored and prestigious business skills workshops delivered by Deloitte professionals. They will also experience the life of Deloitte professionals through the internships offered to them. Students can earn up to 32 weeks (approximately 160 days) of professional experience and knowledge, which is vital for the required practical work element, leading to their elected Professional Qualification. As such, they may be eligible to become a member of a Professional Body (such as ICAEW and ACCA) earlier, as their internship period will count as training experience for their qualification.

Employability and business skills workshops

Students will also attend a number of employability and business skills workshops which will take place during the Summer semester of the 1st year of academic studies with UNIC. These will be assessed workshops and will act as an integral element of training with Deloitte. The areas of focus will be:

  • Analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Compliance and legislative implications
  • Communication skills and working in teams
  • Ethical and professional standards in practice
  • Innovation and technology topics, such as cybersecurity and cloud computing, fintech, big data and data analytics, the impact of artificial intelligence
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Professional judgement and creativity in practice

Entry Criteria

School Apolytirion of at least average 19/20 overall (including 19/20 and above in Maths) or a minimum of AAA in A-Levels (preferably in Accounting, Economics, and Mathematics, or equivalent).

Any Cyprus public school results on individual modules – could be considered as GCE A’ levels, grade A (e.g. final grade 19/20 and above in Accounting, Maths, Physics, Economics).

The number of student places is very limited. Deloitte also reserves the right to select the successful candidates to participate in the practical component of this programme.

An interview and official recruitment process will be organised by Deloitte concerning the practical component.

How it works

Upon commencement of the programme, Deloitte will invite candidates meeting the above degree entry criteria for an interview and skills assessment for the Deloitte internship programme. Successful candidates will then join the programme and will follow the specified semester breakdown. Students will not have the option to select their modules to be attended each semester.

As the Accounting degrees in both UNIC and Bayes follow a flexible credit transfer system (ECTS), credits will be awarded for the Bayes degree, assuming academic courses are completed at UNIC and vice versa.

Throughout the design of these degrees, core topics have been selected to be completed through academic courses, to obtain the maximum of exemptions from specific professional qualifications.

Students will secure internships with Deloitte that will run during the 2nd and 3rd years. By performing well on their internships and by achieving a minimum of 2:1 (Bayes) or 3.5 CPA (UNIC) throughout the degree, students may be potentially eligible for a graduate job offer from Deloitte.
