The AI Lab of the University of Nicosia aims at developing cutting edge technology as well as state-of-the art research on the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science. It consists of professors, Post-Doctoral researchers, PhD Students, as well as undergraduate students that conduct research and run projects related to a plethora of challenging topics like: Data Science (Data Stream mining, Deep Learning, Big Data Management), Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Uncertain Reasoning, Bayesian Networks), Smart Cities (Learning from Urban Data), Computational Social Science, Sentiment Analysis, Social Network Analysis. The team focuses on interdisciplinary topics working with external collaborators from Political Science, Social Science, Journalism and Health. On top of the research goals the group provides high-quality teaching on relevant topics (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Machine Learning).
The Mobile Systems Lab (MoSys Lab) is a laboratory under the Computer Science department at the University of Nicosia, engaged in the design, development, and evaluation of Mobile and Wearable computing systems and applications, including ultra-dense sensors for Internet of Things (IoT) implementations as well as Fog and Edge-level resource manipulation prototypes. The Laboratory currently runs several cutting-edge research projects in the areas of Smart Cities, Ambient Assisted Living, Smart Living, Smart Mobility and IoT large-scale pilots with horizontal implementations in various interdisciplinary fields (i.e. medical applications, maritime cross-border surveillance, crowdsourcing, etc). MoSys Lab personnel consists of Faculty members, Post-Doctoral researchers, PhD students, as well as undergraduate students that are actively involved in research projects.
The Informatics Security Lab (ISL) mission is to investigate open research challenges in the fields of cybersecurity and privacy. The novel approaches proposed by ISL use cutting edge technologies to provide secure, transparent, and trusted large-scale systems. The two pillars of research directions are (a) devising techniques to detect cyberattacks by analyzing attack patterns and building attack profiles and (b) recommending privacy-enhancing techniques compliant to GDPR. The ISL team is interested in multidisciplinary applied security and privacy, including e-government, and hybrid warfare. ISL faculty is responsible for delivering security courses such as ethical hacking, cyber warfare and computer security.

“Studying Computer Science at UNIC is a great experience. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to share their expertise and provide support. The majority of classes have an impressively low student-to-teacher ratio, which makes it easier to get to know your fellow classmates, and also gives professors the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their students and deliver material at the right pace.”

Hanna Sababa, Computer Science, Class of 2018
