Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr Ippokratis Pountos is an orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery. Following completion of his orthopaedic training, Dr Pountos undertook further fellowship training at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the busiest and most respected trauma and elective orthopaedic centres in the United Kingdom. In addition to his fellowship in the UK, Dr Pountos trained at the ATOS Clinic in Heidelberg, Germany, a renowned centre specialising in the reconstruction of complex foot and ankle deformities.
Dr Pountos has extensive experience in the treatment of a wide range of foot and ankle conditions and injuries. Over the years, he has developed a particular interest in the management of foot and ankle deformities, whether developmental in nature or secondary to conditions such as diabetes or neuromuscular disorders. He also performs advanced surgical procedures, including total ankle replacement, arthroscopic joint fusion, treatment of non-unions, and management of ligament and tendon injuries.
Dr Pountos has successfully completed three postgraduate degrees in the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on improving bone healing. He holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. Over the course of his career, Dr Pountos has published more than 75 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has delivered numerous podium presentations at international meetings.
For his academic work, Dr Pountos has received five prestigious awards, including the “Best of the Best Paper” Award from the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (2015), as well as the Best Paper Award from the British Trauma Society (2006 and 2016).
