The event was tailored to informing high-school students on the opportunities of AI and study prospects.
Several live demonstrations were performed by students of the department and AILab researchers to showcase Human-AI interaction with robots and drones.
The program of this year’s AI Day included the following:
– Prof. Athena Stassopoulou (Head of the CS Department) gave a brief overview of the Department and the BSc programs in Data Science and Computer Science.
– Dr. Demetris Trihinas (Senior Member, UNIC AI Lab) gave a presentation entitled “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Challenges and Study Prospects”.
– Dr. Ali Tayari introduced to everyone the UNIC robots (Nicky and Nao).
– Anna- Maria Kyriakou (BSc in Data Science, senior year student) did a robot demo of her Final Year project with Nicky identifying sign-language alphabet letters.
– Panagiotis Avraam (BSc in Computer Science, senior year student) did a robot demo of his Final Year project with NAO playing the game of rock-paper-scissors against human opponents.
– Savvas Theocharous (BSc in Data Science, third year student) project on identifying traffic signs in road networks, was presented as a demo by two BSc in Data Science students (Ardem Boichuk and Oleg Rubenchik)
