Dr Nikolaos Zaras holds a BSc degree in Sports Science & Physical Education (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece), an MSc degree in Sports Science and Fitness Coaching (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens), an MSc in Fitness and Health (University of Thessaly, Greece) and a Ph.D. degree in Sports Science focusing in Strength and Conditioning (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens). He has just also completed his two years Post-Doctoral research training in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Life & Health Sciences at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level courses related to Strength and Conditioning and to Fitness Coaching. Dr Zaras has published so far 15 articles in peer-review journals and presented more than 50 oral and poster presentations in National and International sport science conferences.
His main research interests include:
- Muscle strength, power and morphological adaptations to exercise training,
- Force development, muscle architecture and performance in young competitive throwers,
- Effects of tapering with light vs. heavy loads on track and field throwing performance and
- Strength vs. ballistic-power training on throwing performance.
