Solomou, studied History at the University of Cardiff where he received his B.A (Hons). His postgraduate studies are in the field of History and History Methodology and Didactics. He received his Doctorate, from the University of Middlesex (U.K.) of which he is currently an Internal Examiner. He has been teaching Cyprus History on the M.A. in International Relations Programme, and Cyprus History and History Didactics on the B.A. in the Primary Education Programme, at the University of Nicosia. Dr Solomou is the President of the Cyprus Society of Historical Studies, member of the Historical Association of the United States, a Fellow of the Historical Association of Great Britain, a member of the National Council for History Education (USA), a member of the International Society for History Didactics, a member of the Board of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in History, Vice President of the Board of the Mass Media Institute (IMME),\u00a0 Vice President of the Board of the Cyprus Folk Museum, Vice President of the Board of the Cyprus Pedagogical Association, Member of the Hellenic Educational Society,\u00a0 Senior Fellow of the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs of the University of Nicosia (CCEIA) as well as of many other Professional Associations and Organisations in Cyprus, the U.K and the U.S.A.\u00a0 He is the Managing Editor of the Cyprus Review.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Emilios A. He served as a school advisor of Primary Education, as a consultant of the Pedagogical Institute, responsible for Early Childhood Education and as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Crete. He has also taught as a visiting professor in Greek and foreign universities. From 1995 to 2000 he served as an Education Advisor at the Permanent Representation of Greece to UNESCO in Paris. He was President of the Department of Primary Education of the Pedagogical Institute. From 2001 to 2012 he served as Dean of the School of Education of Intercollege at the beginning and of the University of Nicosia afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>He was the founder and director of the first UNESCO Chair of the University of Nicosia in Cyprus (2005-2013), with subject: &#8220;Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace&#8221;. Its scientific and research activities focus on Pre-Primary Education issues. He has published books and articles, independently or in collaboration, in Greek and French, has participated in many research projects and has presented various studies in pedagogical conferences in Greece and abroad. After his retirement from the University of Nicosia, he continues to collaborate with the UNESCO Chair of the same University and offers his services to cultural associations and foundations on a pro bono Director<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\"><p>Dr Christina Hadjisoteriou is an Associate Professor of Intercultural Education at the University of Nicosia. She is a graduate of the Department of Primary Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and in 2006, she earned a Master\u2019s in Education (MPhil in Education) with a specialization in Educational Research from the University of Cambridge. In 2009, she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD in Education), with specialization in Intercultural Education from the same University as a scholar of the Leventis Foundation through the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, she completed her postdoctoral studies on the &#8220;Europeanization of Intercultural Education&#8221; with funding from the Cyprus government and the European Structural Funds through the Research and Innovation Foundation. Dr Hadjisoteriou has previously served as an educator in public schools and as a member of the Biomedical and Clinical Research Committee A&#8217; of the National Bioethics Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Hadjisoteriou has received international awards such as the International Travel Award from the American Educational Research Association and the SUSEES scholarship from the European Education Research Association. She has also received performance awards for all years of her studies from the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece. Actively participating in numerous European programs, she has secured over 4 million euros in grants from the European Union and the government of Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p>As the author and editor of 8 books, Dr Hadjisoteriou has a rich publication history in international scientific journals and the daily press, and she is a member of several international research organizations. She currently serves as the Deputy Director of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Nicosia, &#8220;Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of the first ever UNESCO Chair in Cyprus was inaugurated at the University of Nicosia.<\/h3>\n<p>The purpose of the UNESCO Chair is:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cthe promotion of a comprehensive framework of educational activities, research, provision of information and documentation in the area of cultural, linguistic and religious diversity and the intercultural dialogue for a culture of peace, on a local, national or regional level.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:20px;width:100%;\"><div class=\"fusion-separator-border sep-double\" style=\"--awb-height:20px;--awb-amount:20px;border-color:#e0dede;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div>\n<p>Through a multitude of activities, events, collaborations and international meetings, the UNESCO Chair at the University of Nicosia has and continues to diligently serve the triptych of cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and culture of peace.<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cCultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>The Chair is a member of the program UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking), established in 1991. Today, UNITWIN has more than 570 UNESCO Chairs and interuniversity network in 118 member states of the organization. As stated in the UNESCO official website, this scheme has<em> \u201cthe aim of developing interuniversity cooperation, while emphasizing the transfer of knowledge between universities and the promotion of academic solidarity across the world\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Chair\u2019s holder at the University of Nicosia is Professor Panayiotis Angelides. Professor Angelides reiterated in several times that his \u201c<em>objective is to cultivate profound insights that guide policies, programs, and initiatives fostering peaceful coexistence within diverse societies. Through collaborative partnerships with governments, NGOs, civil society organizations, and individuals who resonate with our vision, we endeavor to construct bridges, nurture peace, and envision a future that cherishes the wealth of our shared human heritage.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The University of Nicosia and Cyprus are a step closer to adopting the UNESCO vision in making our region a better place.<\/p>\n<h3>Declaration at the Inauguration of UNESCO Chair<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201d\u2026because wars begin in the mind of people, that is why in the mind of people we shall build the fortress of Peace\u2026\u201d.
