The University of Nicosia Medical School aims to achieve excellence in teaching, research, community service and patient care, through its diverse and talented community of individuals.

We are now seeking well-qualified and motivated professionals to support our team for the sessional post of Communication Skill tutor.

The successful candidates will provide their services in Nicosia and will act as sessional Communication Skills Tutors, to groups of medical students in MBBS, MD, GEMD & VET programs when the need for tutors arises. Training will be provided to the selected candidates who will be accountable to the Communication Skills Lead who will vary according to the year they will be teaching in as well as the Course Directors.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Attend an introductory tutor training session
  • Attend the timetabled sessions and commit to tutoring for an agreed number of teaching sessions
  • Facilitate rather than teach
  • Monitor students’ attendance and performance
  • Read and learn the tutor notes and any other material sent to them, and come to each session fully prepared to deliver them
  • Learn and follow the principles of the Calgary Cambridge model when delivering the material so as to meet both the needs of students and the session objectives
  • Troubleshoot group and individual problems as they arise (support from the Leads is available if needed)
  • Attend the post session tutors’ briefing
  • Engage in the tutor evaluation processes
  • Attend tutor development training sessions and any other mandatory staff training as required by the Medical School

Requirements:

  • Be health care professionals (e.g., qualified medical practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, etc.)
  • Display punctuality and diligence when performing their duties and communicating with the Medical School
  • Show an interest in medical students and their education
  • Have excellent communication skills and very good command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Be willing to engage with teaching material in hard copy or electronic format
  • Have the ability to use the ALOBA style of facilitating (this will be taught during the initial training) in order to be responsive to students’ needs, including tackling problems
  • Be able to reflect on their work and accept constructive feedback

Remuneration: Depends on the type and length of clinical communication sessions you will deliver.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The ideal candidates should be eligible to work in the European Union/ European Economic Area.
