On the evening of Thursday 8 June, 2nd year MBBS students gave a public presentation on rheumatic diseases. The event took place at The Boulevard Club in Nicosia and amongst the audience were MBBS students as well as Medical School faculty and members of the public. This event was a first and gave the opportunity to the students involved to gain experience and confidence while speaking in public.
The eight talks were given as part of the SSCT projects of the students. These ‘niche’ projects gave the opportunity to prepare a talk and to deliver it to a non-medical audience in lay terms – something that doctors are required to do throughout their careers. The students were being assessed during their talks on the content as well as on their presentation skills. It was a successful evening with very positive feedback, and there are plans to repeat it next year along the same lines.
