UNIC Sports Awards

The University of Nicosia is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our student-athletes through the annual UNIC Sports Awards. This prestigious event underscores our commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics.

Celebrating Excellence in Sports

The UNIC Sports Awards Ceremony is a cornerstone event that honours the exceptional performances of our athletes in university sports competitions. Each year, this ceremony brings together the UNIC community to recognise and celebrate the dedication, hard work, and success of our student-athletes.

2023-2024 Sports Awards Highlights

The 2023-2024 Sports Awards Ceremony marked the ninth year of celebrating our athletes’ achievements. This year’s event was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Michalis Krasias, a former President of the Cyprus University Sports Federation. His family received a special award in recognition of his significant contributions to university sports.

The ceremony featured inspirational speeches from university and sports officials, emphasising the importance of balancing academic and athletic pursuits. Professor Nikos Kartakoullis, UNIC’s President of the Council, reaffirmed UNIC’s commitment to supporting dual careers for student-athletes.

Kalia Antoniou, a master’s student in Data Science and an Olympic swimmer, shared her inspiring journey of balancing her studies and training for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics via video.

We also celebrated the accomplishments of our cycling champions. Konstantina Georgiou, a Sports Science student, secured 3rd place and a bronze medal, while Styliana Kamillari, a Human Biology student, achieved 9th place at the World University Cycling Championship in Costa Rica in June 2024.

All athletes who participated in the University Sports Federation championships were honoured for their dedication and hard work throughout the year.

to know what it feels like to win and lose – it teaches you about life.
