Second NEOLAiA Law Conference: Judicial Determination of Foreign Law under EU Private International Law<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On 28\u201329 May 2026, our Research Associate, Nicoletta Zacharopoulos, participated in the Second NEOLAiA Law Conference, held in Tours, France, where she presented our paper entitled \u2018Judicial Determination of Foreign Law under EU Private International Law: Procedural Obligations, Evidentiary Limits, and Standards of Review\u2019.<\/p>\n

Presented within the International and Human Rights Law Workshop, the paper examined the challenges associated with the judicial determination of foreign law under EU private international law. It explored the procedural silence of the Rome I and Rome II Regulations regarding the ascertainment of foreign law and considered the implications of divergent national approaches across Member States.<\/p>\n

The presentation further addressed the relationship between procedural autonomy and the principles of effectiveness, mutual trust, legal certainty, and effective judicial protection. Particular attention was given to questions concerning judicial investigation, expert evidence, and standards of appellate review, as well as the extent to which these principles may imply minimum procedural safeguards in the determination of foreign law.<\/p>\n

The conference brought together scholars, researchers, and academics from across the nine countries of the NEOLAiA alliance to explore the overarching theme of \u2018The Interpretation of Law in a Changing World\u2019. Through plenary sessions and specialised workshops, participants engaged in discussions on contemporary legal challenges and emerging developments across a wide range of legal disciplines.<\/p>\n

The event provided a valuable opportunity to present ongoing research, exchange ideas with colleagues from diverse legal traditions, and contribute to international academic dialogue. Empowering Future Educators: PRAISE Project Advances Digital Skills in Spain Training Event and Launches European Survey<\/h2>\n

The Erasmus+ PRAISE project \u2018Programming, Robotics, and AI Skills for Educators-in-training\u2019 has reached a significant milestone. Between 11-14 May 2026, project partners gathered at Fundaci\u00f3n Flors in Vila-real, Spain, for an intensive Learning, Teaching, and Training Activity (LTTA) focused on integrating computational thinking into early childhood and primary education.<\/p>\n

The four-day training event showcased a comprehensive, developmentally staged pedagogical roadmap designed to take young learners from \u2018touch to code\u2019. Participants observed and analyzed classroom implementations spanning ages 3-11, including:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Preschool (ages 3\u20135): embodied logic and unplugged grid activities alongside introductory floor-robotics (Bee-Bot) to support early literacy and numeracy.
\n\u2022 Lower Primary (ages 6\u20137): visual sequencing and pattern recognition using unplugged loop concepts and tangible control-board coding with Matatalab.
\n\u2022 Middle Primary (ages 8\u20139): block-based coding using mBlock and conditional logic with Codey Rocky robots to explore interdisciplinary themes like emotional expression.
\n\u2022 Upper Primary (ages 10\u201311): advanced automation with LEGO Spike, alongside introductory AI frameworks, with Teachable Machine, and prompt engineering.<\/p>\n

The event highlighted the immense value of \u2018unplugged\u2019 kinesthetic methods to build robust mental models before students transition to screens, ensuring digital literacy is deeply embedded across core curriculum subjects.<\/p>\n
