Dr Khalid Ali Mohammed Al Kamzari, a recent MD graduate, attended the International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG) World Conference held in Tunis from 11 to 14 June 2026.<\/p>\n
During the conference, he had the opportunity to present a study<\/a> protocol he supported, titled \u2018Real world patterns of inhaled medication, adherence and patient knowledge in Asthma and COPD management: Insights from a pharmacy-based community survey in Crete and Cyprus’.<\/p>\n Led by Dr Despo Ierodiakonou, this collaborative study between researchers from the University of Nicosia Medical School and School of Health and Life Sciences, and the University of Crete Medical School, will investigate real-world patterns of inhaled medication use, the importance of adherence and patients’ knowledge in asthma and COPD management.<\/p>\n Commenting on his participation, Dr Al Kamzari said: \u2018I am grateful to the University of Nicosia Medical School for supporting my participation in this conference. The experience reinforced something I hold central to my work as an academic: the most meaningful learning happens where academia and industry meet.<\/em><\/p>\n Beyond the course content itself, one of the most valuable aspects was connecting with destination professionals from around the world who are confronting many of the same challenges we face in Cyprus. Continuous professional development of this nature allows me to bring current industry challenges directly into the classroom, ground our discussions in lived professional experience, and help our students develop the critical thinking they will need as future leaders in the sector. It provides an overview of the latest WHO classification framework, which distinguishes these tumours according to their cell of origin, and outlines a practical diagnostic approach that combines anatomical, pathological and immunohistochemical findings to improve diagnostic accuracy.<\/p>\n The authors emphasise that accurate classification is important not only for diagnosis but also for patient management. Some of these tumours can be difficult to remove completely and may require long-term imaging surveillance and endocrine follow-up. The review also discusses recent molecular discoveries that may help identify patients at greater risk of tumour progression and guide future treatment strategies.<\/p>\n The article concludes by highlighting the need for large-scale collaborative studies that integrate clinical, imaging, pathological, and molecular data.
