Friends of Cinema Society

The University of Nicosia Cine Studio is host to the Cyprus Friends of Cinema society, which screens quality films as an alternative to mainstream Hollywood blockbusters.

The Society was founded in 1991 as a non-profit organization by a group of individuals with a passion for films at a time when Cypriot society was dominated by video rentals. Since its establishment, the Society organizes regular weekly screenings throughout the majority of the year.

The Society provides cinema audiences in Cyprus the opportunity to enjoy artistic and independent foreign films that hail from countries such as China, Japan and Iran. Friends of Cinema organizes several European film festivals throughout the year, often in collaboration with local embassies, which feature award winning films that highlight modern trends in world cinema.
