The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the largest university in Cyprus, and the largest university in Southern Europe that teaches primarily in English, welcoming 14,000+ students from over 100 countries across the globe.

UNIC has been investing in developing programmes, including with partner universities, focusing on global careers, building research capabilities in areas relating to the 4th industrial revolution, and improving the student experience both on-campus and online. These efforts have been recognised in our most recent ranking achievements in both the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the  QS World University Rankings.

Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings has reaffirmed the University of Nicosia’s global standing, ranking it among the top 601-800 universities in the world. Correspondingly, UNIC ranks among the Top 250 universities in Europe. One of the core areas in which the University excelled in this year’s expanded 2022 WUR edition is International Outlook, where UNIC ranked 47^th worldwide.

QS World University Rankings has recognised UNIC for three years running in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) Region, with the University ranking at numbers 126, 106 and 91 among 1,800 tertiary institutions across 24 countries. The results are noteworthy in a region characterised by dynamic growth in higher education, particularly when contrasted against the large number of other universities counted in the broader EECA region.

The 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings ranked UNIC as the number 32 university in the world in the core area of Quality Education, and among the top 401-600 universities globally in terms of its overall social and economic impact.

UNIC is a comprehensive university with over 100 conventional on-campus and online/distance learning programmes of study, with particular strengths in medicine, health sciences, blockchain, law, accounting, architecture, international relations, education, computer science, and engineering.

UNIC offers the top blockchain/cryptocurrency academic programme in the world (MSc in Digital Currency). It was the first university globally to offer a course and degree programme in the field and is regularly recognised as a global leader.

Our University provides a student-focused learning environment with small class sizes (average 13:1 student/ faculty ratio), a wide range of laboratories for handson student experience, and innovative teaching methods (including problem-based learning).

Our University has been a pioneer in online/distance learning education in Europe, supporting both its own degree programmes, as well as those of its joint degree partners. In 2017, UNIC became the first university in the European Union to be awarded a 5-Star QS rating for Online/ Distance Learning. This exemplary rating was reaffirmed by the QS Intelligence Unit in 2020.

UNIC founded the first and largest Medical School in Cyprus by offering the St George’s, University of London Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduate-entry programme. Building on this experience, the School has since added an undergraduate-entry medical programme and a number of postgraduate degrees, and also established global partnerships with renowned clinical hospitals in Chicago, Baltimore,Tel Aviv and Barnsley.

UNIC’s modern campus is made up of 20 purpose-built and customised buildings situated amid the urban landscape in the bustling suburb of Engomi in Nicosia. Over the last few years, we have invested over €100 million in our campus infrastructure. The expansive layout of our campus allows us to provide specialised facilities to support each academic department. The whole neighbourhood is oriented towards student life, allowing for a unique social experience, characterised by community interaction, diversity, learning and fun.

The newly built UNIC Residences consist of three separate complexes – SIX, U and TRIANGLE – and are some of the most stunning and architecturally distinct student residences in the world. They house a total of 864 students, with first-year incoming students at the University guaranteed accommodation.

The student experience at UNIC is filled with many social events and activities. Throughout the year, a host of exciting and varied events are organised on campus, catering to the diversity of tastes that come with a global student body. At the same time, the University offers a wide range of sports programmes and state-of-the-art facilities for exercise and sports, satisfying all levels of interest, commitment and fitness. The University’s state-of-the-art UFIT Fitness Centre is a leading gym in Cyprus, offering excellent services under the professional guidance of health and sports science specialists.
