Mediazone was created in 1997 with the name TV and Radio Unit. In addition to providing state of the art facilities and equipment to students of the Communication, and the Multimedia and Design Departments, it started offering professional solutions to the industry in the areas of video and audio production.
In the years that followed, Mediazone produced documentaries and commercials, mostly for the European Union, the United Nations, and various governmental and non-governmental organizations. Another contribution to the industry was the establishment of the yearly, week-long SOAPBOX show, which hosts creative people from the media world to spark dialogue, inspiration and innovation. Soapbox has been warmly received and appreciated by both the University community and the media industry and continues to be held successfully every year.
In 2000, and in line with new demands by the industry, the Unit started offering multimedia solutions. In 2003, it expanded its facilities with the creation of a digital post-production lab, one of the largest in the Mediterranean region with 13 stations.
In 2005, the Unit made another step forward and formed an outdoor broadcasting service, in order to cover large scale events like theatrical plays, graduation ceremonies, concerts and many more.
In the fall of 2007, the Unit housed another service, a graphic design section, and decided to change its name to “Mediazone" which better represents its wide and creative range of activities.
Today, Mediazone - University of Nicosia, is a busy and vibrant centre, which offers a large variety of media-related services: Production of documentaries and commercials, coverage of events, professional trainings and print, web and multimedia solutions, are all available.
